Hammers 435 The Imps 479
After their defeat by Hammers in the league by 1 pin a couple of weeks ago The Imps were taking nothing for granted in the quarter finals of the cup at the Trinity Club on Wednesday night.
Hammers started the way they finished the league match hitting a 67 hand helped by a flopper from anchor man Lee Pitman (15), while The Imps struggled to a 55 hand to go 12 pins down. Hammers hit 60 next hand, but this time The Imps started to play and hit a 75 hand with captain Terry Gosney having a flopper (15) to go 3 pins up . Hammers fought back on the third hand and hit 69 but The Imps bettered that with a 72 hand, with the help of 15 from Martin Haime. The fourth hand the Hammers again hit 69 but The Imps were on top of their game and hit 71 with Martin Haime having a flopper (18) to put Imps 8 up. Finally Hammers dropped the high standards of the game and hit 57 on the fifth hand and The Imps gained 8 more pins hitting 65. The match was now over and the Hammers finished with hands of 55 and 58, while The Imps hit 61 on the sixth hand, and finished in style with a 80 hand to win the match by 44 pins.
