Hammers run Marco close

Marco Wanderers 472 Hammers 465

In another tight match at the Greyhound Inn, there was little to choose between the sides top and bottom of the league. Marco opened up with hands of 69 and 80 but the Hammers responded well with hands of 71 and 76 to leave them just 2 pins behind. Marco added another good hand of 74 to stretch their lead to 11 after three throws. A couple of mediocre hands by both teams left the difference of 9 pins going into the sixth hand. Marco upped their level to score 71 however Hammers came back strongly with three stick ups in a score of 74 to leave the match finely poised with Marco taken a lead of six pins into the last hand. Try as they might Marco could not convert a stick up and a final hand of 63 left the Hammers a very winnable target of 70 to win. Lead off man T. Durrant gave the Hammers the perfect start by hitting a 12, but the rest of the team could not provide the back up scores needed and as a result ended up with a hand of 62 to lose the match by 7 pins. Top score for Marco was Pete Bolton with 71 and for the Hammers Lloyd Mitchem with 68.
